Me/Russel Crowe

Some background to the whole Russel Crowe thing. Growing up, I never really got the 'you look like Russel Crowe!" thing. It wasn't until about 2 years ago, when I lost about 30 pounds, that I started getting it. In fact, one of the first people to ever tell me, was Dave. Gradually, as I lost more weight, and then grew my facial hair, I started getting more and more people tell me i looked like him, and even random strangers.

Some examples:

In June, I went to LA to go to a friend's wedding. I went to an Italian restaurant in the Universal Studios thingy. A very gay, black waiter, who was not our waiter, came up to me and said that when I came in he thought I was Russel Crowe. As we were leaving, he came up to me and asked me if I wanted to go to a party later that evening. I politely declined.

The illusion is much more effective on asians. Last year, I went with Mel to an English as a Second language thingy (I don't remember what it was called) where they have a potluck dinner, etc. It's mostly asians. Anyway, it was the first time that any of them had ever met 'Mel's boyfriend,' and they instantly said I looked like 'that guy from the movies' or 'that Gladiator guy.' Of course, I blushed profusely and just smiled it off. Again, while in LA, the day after the gay waiter incident, I was walking down Hollywood. Ironically enough, we were at the chinese theater, when a bunch of chinese people came up to me and wanted to take my picture. Apparently they thought I was Russel Crowe.

Insert variouos random incursions with pointed fingers and muffled whispers between then and last week.

Last Woden's Day, I was at the Marston Science Library studying in the midst of my Hell Week (tm). I was at a table by myself on the 4th floor, next to a table full of black girls studying some sort of biology. They had flash cards and were reading the questions to each other, prompting the others to answer. Half the time I wanted to shout the answers to them, because it was rather rudimentary biology, since even I knew the answers and I haven't taken biology since jr. high. Anyway, that's the beside teh point. The point is, they were not exactly quiet. They were quite loud, and even ordered pizza, on their cell phone, and had it delivered... TO THE LIBRARY!!! Anyway, I tell you all this because about 45 minutes after I arrived, they suddenly got very very quiet, and whispered to each other. This was like sleeping with the TV on, and then someone comes and turns it off, and you wake up as if a couple rounds went off near your ear; I immediately looked up at them, and they looked away and giggled. I smiled back, and then continued my work. About 10 minutes later, one said 'Girl, you right! He does look him!' I looked up, and finally they said "did anyone ever tell you you look like Russel Crowe?" I smiled agreeingly and told them I get it quite often, and that I took it as a compliment.

Fast forward to last night, I'm at an engagement party for Marie, a former coworker of mine from the UF PERC. I walk in, and Marie introduces me to her mother, who promptly exclaims "you look just like Russel Crowe!" I smile, and recount the aforementioned library story to her.

Anyhoo.... there's the majority of the Russel Crowe instances in my life. I'm sure they won't be the last. I hope not, Russel Crowe is a hottie.

Kidney Stones: Reprise

So yesterday morning, I woke up and had to go pee. As I got up, I noticed my back hurt a little. "Hmm..." I thought, "I must have been sleeping awkdwardly." I thought nothing of it, and I went to go relieve myself. As soon as I was done.... BAM! the pain in my back got worse. I knew almost immediately what it was... a kidney stone. I promptly started to freak out, because I did NOT want a repeat of January, when I was literally rolling on the infirmary floor, moaning in agony. Fortunately, the pain this time was not nearly as severe, and it was over in about 30 minutes. And last night, the stone passed innocuously into the sewer system. Yay.

Close one

Wow, you guys who voted for Kerry barely escaped my wrath. I was all prepared to go home, get my rifle, and go down my checklist of Kerry voters. Luckily, the majority of Americans are smarter than most of my friends. ;) Woot! Four more years!

Vote

I trust everyone is voting... Don't forget. Even if you do vote for Kerry (remember, I'll kill you if you do) it's still important to vote. I have to drive all the way home to vote, because apparently the petition I signed earlier this year, the one on which they were supposed to change my registration, didn't take. So I must drive all the way back to OP. Oh well, gotta dump some stuff off to my parents anyway.
